Terroir Tasting: Napa Cabernet

Every month or so for the remainder of 2012, we intend to bring up a new, free video lesson illustrating why weather and soil and vineyard practices make two wines from the same grape variety taste differently, and how to describe those different tastes. These are major distinguishing factors in wines, which will be true across many examples from lots of regions around the world.

Eventually there will be seven video lessons in total ~

  • Napa Cab Cross-section: hillside, bench, valley floor
  • Chardonnay RegionalityCentral Coast vs. Sonoma
  • Pinot Noir & DuckCarneros vs. Sonoma Coast vs. Mendocino
  • Napa Cabtrellising and vine spacing for smells and flavor
  • Sauvignon Blanc & Oysterscoastal vs. inland vs. iron-rich soil
  • Zinfandel & BBQ: vine age & elevation in the Sierras
  • Napa Merlot:  temperature change from north to south

If you want, you can taste along. Give us your email address, and we’ll send you the names of wines which demonstrate the characteristics in each lesson as each of those lessons gets posted to our website. Invite your friends over for a little party. Taste along with the video, and take a look at the extended cut, where we taste aged examples of Napa Cabernet Sauvignon!
